First roll

This first roll is all from one day I spent with my friends. We went out to a soccer field and played croquet. I know that makes me sound like a polo-wearing horse-riding caviar-eating mansion-owning housekeeper-hiring parental-wealth-using read-1-book-and-think-I'm-cultured think-I'm-fluent-in-a-language-but-I-really-only-own-a-phrase-book racist white asshole (yes, I did search "things rich snobs do" on the internet to find more). BUT, it is fun to get mad at hitting each other's balls repeatedly and just hangout. Wait what is this for again?... Oh right photography. This is that last expired roll I mentioned in a previous post that was given to me with the camera. This time I didn't utterly botch the push-pull thing (although that last roll did turn out pretty at times).

October 2024

First ever black & white photo! I walk by this old firefighter building sometimes and I like how the staircase looks. Unfortunately the framing in this is quite bad, the cars kinda ruin it. I really should have walked closer to it to find a better angle, but I had to make a bus when I was walking by. Another thing to note is that I didn't really account for the fact that I was shooting black & white, in this roll I was treating it like it had color. It's the first shot so I shouldn't really complain. Oh well I can always come back to this location easily.

This is another spot that I walk by that I think looks neat. When the sun is at just the right angle the shed on the left looks golden. But I'm not at the right time of day or shooting color so this shot just feels like a nothing burger to me. The KEEP OUT sign with the broken chain link fence looks kinda cool so maybe I could get a different angle on that in the future.

After I took the bus I met up with my friends at the field, and for some reason I thought this would be a cool picture? I remember thinking the car driving by between the trees would be cool, but that doesn't make up for the photo being doo doo fart piss

I think I thought the mountains looked cool? Eh. They're so hazy it doesn't do it for me. Also maybe underexposed, but it could just look that way from it being direct sunlight.

So this one's alright. I remember thinking the house's roof had a nice color, which is why I took the photo. But again, it's monochrome, so no color. I still think he angle looks neat.

Right next to the field is horse stables for some reason. I live in mountains with not much room to do... anything. So I never understood why they're here. I took a photo but it just looks crap. I had to stand on an electrical box to get the shot, so at least I tried. I think if I had a narrower lens it could've worked somewhat

On my way back from the stables my friends were still setting up. I guess I thought they looked cool since I now have a picture of them. At least they're so far away I don't have to censor their faces

We ended up picking the starting place of the game (marked by the stick) near the fence's post and a tree. I kinda liked how there were 3 vertical stick things poking out of the ground all in line with each other, especially with the shadows. The sun made a lens flare so that's annoying.

I'd like it better if there wasn't a car.

I guess this is my first try at street-adjacent photography. There was this dude running around with his dog so I saw an opportunity. Eh.

I wandered around the neighborhood while my friends were still setting up and thought the corridor between houses looked neat. Pretty boring. Something to note is that this is WAYYYY more pictures than I SHOULD be taking, but considering this was my3rd roll ever I think it's fine. You can see how the lens curves the road paint so that's a neat fact I guess.

In front of some person's house there was a green car sitting in the grass. I really liked how the tree's shadows were falling on it. Again, I was thinking more about the color of the scene than almost anything else. I think it could have used better framing, but I didn't want to wander around some random person's front lawn with a camera too long.

The game had been set up at this point and on my way back, I thought the person riding the horse sign was cool...

Yep... that's it...

I thought it'd be cool to have a picture of my friends during their swing. While I still think having a picture to remember my friends by is cool, the glare REALLY kills it.

My friend was doing some stupid stuff with the mallet and I thought it was goofy. Unfortunately I didn't expose it properly.

Soon after the previous photo my other friend wanted to join in, and I guess I took another. Again... wayyyy to many photos.

Another mid-swing shot. Things are getting a bit too boring now.

Now THAT'S what I like to see. Simply beautiful. 10/10 would smash.

I was still shooting like it was color, but I kinda like it. The sign glowing from the reflection looks kinda cool.

Guess I'm doing a face reveal now. I was showing my friend how the camera worked and offered him to take a photo. I setup the exposure for him so all he really did was press the shutter, but it's still fun. Unfortunately this black square came up, so its a little hard to make out the details.

Another street-adjacent photo. Person walking by with their dog and I thought it would be cool if I waited for them to walk between the fences. Eh.

After we were done playing the game, it was dark out. Normally the buses don't run at this time but there was some event going on in town so they were running for it. The buses (busses? I think it's busses) were supposed to go directly to the event and not stop, but I asked the driver and they kindly stopped mid-route for me. During the ride I thought the bus looked eerie with no people and at night. I took a shot at the slowest shutter I thought I could handle in a moving vehicle and hoped for the best.

I wanted to finish off the roll that day, so I thought I'd try my hand at night-time photography. While I don't own a tripod, there were electrical boxes I could put my camera on. I'm actually kind of impressed how well this one turned out given the limitations.

Behind the gas station there's some bollards, and I figured I could use them for stability. It didn't work out.

For the last shot I found another electrical box and took a photo of the same building as before. Yep, not good.
