Second roll

This roll is from 3 different days. The first was when me and my friends hung out. The second was during the eclipse last year. The third was during another exploration of that one canyon I went down. I knew I'd be shooting this inside my friend's house (I won't be showing pics from that) so I pushed it one stop. Just for that smidge more light.

October 2024

Damn... I didn't know I had it in me. The first shot isn't total crap. Looking at the concrete driveway on the left, it might be a little over exposed? But to be honest I really like this photo. The truck on the left kinda takes me out of it, and I with the tree was more centered between the 2 buildings so you can't see what's behind it. But yeah pretty decent by my standards.

These first two are from when I was walking to the bus stop, and this is me AT the bus stop. I had time to kill and took a picture of what was behind me. Originally I was kinda worried the reflection of the glass would mess up the photo, but I think it makes it look at least interesting. Not much else to say.

This was taken a a few weeks after that during the eclipse in the US. The eclipse glasses were barely big enough to cover the lens with it fully zoomed, So I ended up taking pictures of it as it went on. Artistically this isn't very interesting, but I think it's cool to have pictures of the eclipse on film. Holding up the glasses while also taking a photo pointing upward was a bit annoying so that's why it looks all over the place.

I don't remember if I took these 2 photos when I got back from the eclipse or before I went into the canyon. But here they are. I'd always wanted to take a picture of a squirrel at the back of our house, but they don't always stay for long. You can tell by the lack of focus, blurriness, and over exposure that I panicked to get the shot. If you can manage to recover from the force of a 1000 suns blinding you, you might be able to see the squirrel sitting on the railing.

Back to the canyon! This shot might look familiar to you, and that's because I think I'll use it as a comparison shot for all the different rolls of film I shoot. There's some contrast between the underside of the bridge and the sunlight on the rest of the trees, so it'll give me an idea of where to meter for in the future. Also, it just looks neat and it's easy enough to access.

This time I wanted to reach deeper into the canyon to what things I could find. As it turns out... lots of trees. Dead ones too. This particular tree fell into the stump of another. It seems kind of crazy that something like this would happen naturally, So I took a picture. Still don't think that makes the photo any better though.

I thought the path ahead looked kinda cool so I hunkered down took this. Eh, not bad. I think it could've been less exposed.

Just past there the canyon really opens up and becomes less clausterphobic. The absolute scale of everything was a bit unexpected so I guess I thought it made for a good picture. Again, I think I was going a bit photo crazy with this roll. I should've really spent more time exploring the scene to find something better.

This isn't better. I guess I liked the house a top the wall? Bleh.

Ok now that's just BAD. There's this chain link fence at the top of one of the sides, so I thought it sort of contrasted the nature. Unfortunately the sun had just exploded so it kinda ruins the photo.

The canyon is sandwiched between 2 residential areas which means that assholes will throw trash in the canyon sometimes. One such piece of trash is a small tire. Yup, a tire. No idea why you'd throw a single tire into a canyon, but it's there. It's kinda lodged into the dirt so it's probably been there for a while. It was near some water so I thought it could make for an intersting picture. It's hard to get a good angle of things if you don't want to climb rocks, so that's why you can barely see it.

For some reason I kind of like this photo? it feels just barely correct to me if that makes sense. The way the photo is split in half by the rock, the contrast of the ground with nothing on the bottom right with the top left, and the placement of the water somehow works for me. I don't know how to describe it, but it feels weird in a good way to me. Probably a bit over-exposed, but HP5 does well with it.

Even deeper in the canyon I found this dam. Eh. Boring photo but I guess the dam is neat.

I ended up getting a clear view of the end point of the canyon. And there's this... thing? Not sure what it is but it's there. Remembering my mistake of not taking the proper precautions when fully zooming in with this camera, I made the shutter quicker. That's probably why it doesn't look over exposed. Other than that, it's a bit boring.

I took another a bit closer and less zoomed, assuming I would've messed up the previous shot. Again, same story.

Aaaaand another, this time near the weird metal gate there for some reason. Still boring.

With all the trees being higher up on the ground than me, the scale was getting to me. I guess I thought that would make for a neat picture. It didn't.

Here's a close up of the... thing. Still don't know what it is. There's TONs of plastic bottles around it though. I wanted to get a view down the hole at the top, but I couldn't get high enough.

Heading back I took this. Yup. I guess the glow from the sun looks cool.

And then another picture of the dam. Kind of a let down for the last shot.
